Spring School Tour Programs
Grade 1
Unlock Our History
$6.00/Student
The grade one program consists of a schoolhouse lesson with “Mrs. McTavish”, old-fashioned games and craft time, as well as a tour of Golosky House, Hill House, Hill Drugs, Trading Post and Trapper’s Cabin. Together they represent life in our community in the early to mid 1900s.
The program is approx. 90 minutes and is offered in both the morning (9:15-11:00) and the afternoon (12:15-2:00).
Grade 2
Unlock Our History

The grade two program consists of a schoolhouse lesson with “Mrs. McTavish”, old-fashioned games and craft time, as well as a tour of Trading Post, Trapper’s Cabin, Catholic Mission, Chateau gai and the Wop May building. All of this demonstrating life in our community in the early to mid 1900s.
The program is approx. 90 minutes and is offered in both the morning (9:15-11:00) and the afternoon (12:15-2:00).
Grade 3
Pioneer Days
$8.00/Student
Students will experience a day in the life of a pioneer by making butter, washing clothes, gardening, cutting logs, going to old fashioned school, and playing old-fashioned games to learn about life in Fort McMurray in the early to mid 1900s.
Pioneer Days runs from 10:00 am to 2:15 pm with a lunch break from 11:40 – 12:25. No preparation necessary for the day.
Grade 4
Moving North
$8.00/Student
In this interactive program, students role-play families who are “moving north” in the early 1900s. Students are divided into “families”, and each student is given a role to play within their family group. Each family will visit 6 different places in “McMurray” in order to establish their settlement. Additional material is provided for teachers with the information package, as preparation is necessary and will enhance the students’ experience.
Moving North runs from 9:15 am to 2:15 pm with a lunch break of 40-45 minutes.
Grade 5
Fort of the Forks
$6.00/Student
Before Fort McMurray became a booming city, it was a tiny fur trade post known as “Fort of the Forks”. Students will participate in our fur trade activity, where they will earn and collect furs to trade at our very own trading post. In doing so, students will learn about the people involved in the local fur trade right here in the fur-rich Athabasca region.
This program is approx. 135 minutes long and is offered in both the morning (9:15-11:30) and the afternoon (12:00-2:15).

Summer Camp Programs
July 11 - July 15
Raiders of the lost artifact
This camp is for all the explorers. Join us for expeditions, scavenger hunts, and lots of outdoor fun. We will put on our archeological and detective caps, dig up dinosaur bones, and solve the mystery of the missing artifact. This camp is for all the adventurous children looking for some fun and mystery.
July 18 - July 20
Super Heroes
Throughout the week your child will transform into their own superhero. They will complete missions, explore their superpowers, and save the citizens. Come prepared with a creative imagination.
July 25- July 29
Shipwrecked
Join us at the Shipyard and spend the week on our ships where your child can be the captain of their own vessel. We will play water games, explore the history of river transportation in Fort McMurray in a fun and adventurous way, and learn how to survive on a shipwrecked island.
August 8 - August 12
Time Travelers
Come with us as we build a time machine and jump back in time to the early days of Fort McMurray where we explore old-fashioned school, living in the woods like trappers, and what it was like before technology. This week will be dedicated to learning survival skills, pioneer chores, and how to be one with nature.
August 15 - August 19
Olympics & Old Fashioned Games
The 2022 Olympics may be over but the Heritage Olympics have just begun. Join us for events including potato sack races, tug of war, log rolling, and a mix of any more solo and team competitions. Bring your running shoes and team spirit.
August 22 - August 26
Campers Got Talent
For all those kids who are bursting with energy and enthusiasm, we want to invite you to our Campers Got Talent Show! Spend the week learning new things, making friends, and exploring new talents. At the end of the week join us in watching Heritage Villages’ Talent Show put on entirely by your children. No prior expertise or talent is required
